The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 25 August 2024 | Commitment To Prayer And God’s Word

TOPIC: Commitment To Prayer And God’s Word

READ: Psalm 119: 145-160 (NKJV)

  1. I cry out with [my] whole heart; Hear me, O LORD! I will keep Your statutes.
  2. I cry out to You; Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies.
  3. I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word.
  4. My eyes are awake through the [night] watches, That I may meditate on Your word.
  5. Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O LORD, revive me according to Your justice.
  6. They draw near who follow after wickedness; They are far from Your law.
  7. You [are] near, O LORD, And all Your commandments [are] truth.
  8. Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.
  9. Consider my affliction and deliver me, For I do not forget Your law.
  10. Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your word.
  11. Salvation [is] far from the wicked, For they do not seek Your statutes.
  12. Great [are] Your tender mercies, O LORD; Revive me according to Your judgments.
  13. Many [are] my persecutors and my enemies, [Yet] I do not turn from Your testimonies.
  14. I see the treacherous, and am disgusted, Because they do not keep Your word.
  15. Consider how I love Your precepts; Revive me, O LORD, according to Your lovingkindness.
  16. The entirety of Your word [is] truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments [endures] forever.

THE MESSAGE:

To pray earnestly is to draw from the well of God’s word which by the reason of deliberate meditation, has found a place in our hearts. It is the pouring out of His word back to Him, as a heart’s cry. What an earnest cry and a rare one, especially in our days! The Psalmist’s prayer focus was to be faithful to God and His word, arising from sleep long before dawn to pray and meditate on His word in the night watches (vv. 145-149). He, of course, prayed the prayer of deliverance from his enemies(vv.150-158), yet it was a prayer born out of meditation on God’s word.

Have you ever prayed this sort of prayer: To be faithful to God and His word, rising from sleep long before dawn to meditate on His word and to pray earnestly? The weight of your prayer before God is a measure of His word in your heart. Most unanswered prayers are due to their lack of root in God’s word. Arise now and pray earnestly to be committed to prayer and God’s word. You can begin today to spend time in His presence.

PRAYER: Lord, please help me to be completely engrossed in Your love. Quicken me and I will call upon Your name.

Chiokike Notice Board: Your journey to true peace and eternal victory begins with accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Lord Jesus, I come before You today, acknowledging my need for Your grace. I accept You as my Lord and Personal Savior, believing in my heart that You died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. Thank You, Lord, for saving me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
