MEMORISE: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint, Luke 18:1

READ: Luke 18:1-8

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
MESSAGE:

Our bible reading today presents an interesting story that Jesus told His disciples about persistence in the place of prayer. I have discovered that many people get tired easily when they don’t get a swift response from God. I want you to know that God is not a magician. He also does not delight in delaying or denying His children answers to their prayers. However, He is God, and He does things in His own time, which is always perfect.

One of the lessons you can learn from this parable is that you must persist in the place of prayer – pray until something happens. The widow in the parable kept disturbing the judge until he attended to her. You too must persist with your requests until you get a response. Don’t ask for success in your academics for one week and stop because you didn’t score high on a test; you must continue to ask. The Bible says that if you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is little (Proverbs 24:10).

Another lesson to learn from the parable is that the widow did not consult another judge or look for an alternative. It is an insult to God to pray about a particular thing and then think of alternatives. Stick with God and in no time, He will answer you.

KEY POINT
Keep asking in prayers until you get answers

HYMN 21, Standing On The Promises Of Christ My King

Standing on the promises of Christ, my King,
Through eternal ages let his praises ring;
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
Refrain:
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God, my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail.
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
Standing on the promises of Christ, the Lord,
Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
