The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 20 October 2024 | Blessed Is The Man Who Fears The Lord
TOPIC: Blessed Is The Man Who Fears The Lord
READ: Psalm 112:1-10 (NKJV)
Praise the LORD! Blessed [is] the man [who] fears the LORD, [Who] delights greatly in His commandments.
His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.
Wealth and riches [will be] in his house, And his righteousness endures forever.
Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness; [He is] gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
A good man deals graciously and lends; He will guide his affairs with discretion.
Surely he will never be shaken; The righteous will be in everlasting remembrance.
He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.
His heart [is] established; He will not be afraid, Until he sees [his desire] upon his enemies.
He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever; His horn will be exalted with honor.
The wicked will see [it] and be grieved; He will gnash his teeth and melt away; The desire of the wicked shall perish.
THE MESSAGE:
Different people define blessedness in different ways. Some understand blessedness to mean great acquisition of earthly treasure (1 Timothy 6: 5) by all means and the pursuit of it is the genesis of all kinds of evil seen in our society (1 Timothy 6: 9-10). To be wealthy is not forbidden but the worship of wealth is prohibited (Matthew 6: 19-21; Luke 12: 19-21). The passage today reveals that real blessedness is the fear of God. A man blessed by God has mighty descendants, wealth and riches, enduring righteousness, compassion, lends to the poor and steadfastly trusts the Lord, but the desires of the wicked shall perish. Psalm 111: 10 says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This is the reason the Lord referred to the rich man in Luke 12: 20-21 as a fool because he lacked the fear of God. On the contrary, the man who fears and obeys God has many more blessings following him (Deuteronomy 28: 1-14).
Do you want God to bless you? Then you must develop a personal relationship with Him by accepting Christ into your life by faith. And maintain this relationship by having a personal disciplined daily devotion when you read, study, memorise, meditate and obey His word.
PRAYER: Oh Lord, teach me to fear and obey You now and always, Amen.
