The Daily Fountain Devotional of the Church Of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) 2 October 2024 | Attitude Towards The Ark

TOPIC: Attitude Towards The Ark

READ: 1 Samuel 7: 1-2 (NKJV)

Then the men of Kirjath Jearim came and took the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab on the hill, and consecrated Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.
So it was that the ark remained in Kirjath Jearim a long time; it was there twenty years. And all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.
THE MESSAGE:

The ark of God, a symbol of God’s covenant and presence, was captured by the Philistines when Israel presumptuously took it to war. The Almighty God demonstrated that He cannot be captured by men. Hence, the presence of the ark unleashed terror and death on the Philistines, so they returned the ark to Beth-shemesh in Israel. The people of Beth-shemesh treated the ark with disrespect and were slain by God. However, the attitude of the men of Kiriath-Jearim in our text, is quite commendable. They provided shelter for the ark and consecrated a Priest to take charge of it. The ark offered salvation and protection in the time of Noah and also represented God’s Presence in the Books of Samuel.

Similarly, Jesus is our ark of today, providing redemption, God’s Presence and protection to all who run into Him. Unfortunately, some still act like the Philistines and men of Beth-shemesh by treating God with disdain. They jest with God’s name, reject the Gospel, disregard God’s word with impunity, handle sacred items with carelessness, steal, commit immorality, etc. Unfortunately, they forget that the God that punished the Philistines and the men of Beth-shemesh does not change. He still defends His name and punishes the ungodly. He is not a respecter of anybody. So repent today and make room for Jesus to come into your heart.

PRAYER: Lord, may I never dishonour You through my attitude in Jesus’ name.
